1. Alzheimer’s
- Form of Demensia
- Some symptoms are forgetfulness, loss of brain function, perception, everyday tasks get harder,
- Disease gets worst later.
- Cannot cure the disease but you can manage some symptoms.
- Usually are over 60 when you get the disease.
2. Down Sydrome
- Occurs when chromosome 21 has an extra. (47 instead of 46.)
- Main cause of birth defects.
- Can come with heart problems which lead to death.
- Comes with mental retardation and looks can be different.
3. Cystic Fibrosis
- Common lung disease.
- Life threatening disease.
- Caused by a defective gene.
- Delays growth, salty skin, failure to gain weight, and other symptoms.
- Antibiotics are used to treat it.
4. Dwarfism
- Usually do not reach 4 feet.
- Achodroplasia causes this disease.
- No cure.
- Surgery can help but not cure.
- Short stature.
5. Williams Syndrome
- Affects 1 in 10,000 people. (20,000 to 30,000 people)
- 50% chance to pass it to their children.
- Long ridges in skin, prominent lips with an open mouth, skin that covers inner corner of the eye, flat nasal bridge with an upturned nose, and missing or gappy teeth.
- Caused by deletion of 26-28 genes on chromosome 7.
- No cure.
1) albinism- no pigmentation in skin and hair
2) cystic fibrosis- body produces excess mucus
3) klinefelters- men have an extra x chromosome
4) cri du chat- have distinct facial features such as a downward slant to the eyes, small ears and round/small head
5) down syndrome- slow development/ mental retardation

2. Creutzfeldt Jakob Disease- The brain tissue develops holes and takes on a sponge-like texture.
3. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis- Affects approximately 5 out of every 100,000 people worldwide.
4. Color Blindness- Trouble seeing red, green, or blue or a mixture of these colors.
5. Turner Syndrome- Condition that only affects females, and affects 1 out of every 2,500 females.
ALS has no treatment.
