Explain the path of how air comes into the respiratory system. What is the purpose of the alveoli. What happens to the lungs when people smoke. Explain the conditions of one type of respiratory disease.

Respiration starts in the mouth. The mouth expands and oxygen rich air is drawn in through the nostrils. Then the nostrils close and the mouth contracts forcing this air into the lungs. Then the mouth opens as the body and lungs contract, expelling the carbon dioxide rich air.
Alveoli are small air sacs in the lungs, as small as a grain of sand. There are billions of these in the lungs, and the purpose of these alveoli are to supply de-oxygenated blood with a supply of oxygen through gas exchange. They are well-equipped to do this, as well. The first reason is because the cappillaries that the alveoli are supplying with oxygen are spread all over the outside of them, meaning there is more surface area to perform gaseous exchange on. The second reason is because the alveoli walls are only one cell thick, meaning the oxygen only has two cells to go through, the alveoli wall, and the capillary wall. \
After 3 years of continuous smoking you increase your chances by 25% of getting lung cancer. Smoking will not only kill you it can kill your loved ones to. The secondhand smoke can be inhaled by kids, animals, other adults, and teens, inhaling the smoke can be deadly and you can stop that happening by not smoking
What happens to the lungs when people smoke.
The air goes into the heart and out to the lungs then through out the whole body. They caintain air and push the air out the lungs. They get very damage and they have trouble contracting and getting air in.
When people smoke their lungs become full of tar anthey will over tome develop enphysema.
